The City of Ashland will be hiring temporary/seasonal P/T employees to work varying schedules between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. as Park Patrol.
These positions will be active from 05/2020 - 09/2020. These positions are not eligible for benefits. Hourly wage may be adjusted in the next fiscal year.
ESSENTIAL REQUIRED JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform a variety of park patrol duties in an entry-level position. Under supervision of the Central Area Patrol Officer (CAP Officer), patrol public park areas on foot or on bicycle, help staff the downtown contact station, and respond to requests for information and/or assistance from the public. Greet public, determine nature of contact and provide direction or respond to inquiries and requests. Register complaints and refer to appropriate personnel. Enforce park rules, regulations and ordinances by giving verbal or written warnings or by issuing citations for park violations.
Coordinate park reservations and assist in other park-related activities. Alert the City Police Department to the presence of hazardous situations and criminal violations. Assist in preliminary first aid for sick or injured persons and summon help for more seriously injured persons.
Advise the Parks Department of physical hazards and or repairs that need to be made to damaged property. Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work areas. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading related materials and meeting with others in areas of responsibility.
Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
Testify in court as necessary.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: High school graduation or equivalent. Proficient communication skills, both verbal and writing. Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the public, depending upon the situation. This is a quasi law enforcement position requiring adherence to state and local laws and vehicle statutes both in "on" and "off" -duty status and to the standards of behavior required by the Ashland Police Department for this position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: Valid Oregon driver's license. Ability to safely ride a bicycle. Knowledge of city bicycle rules and regulations and city park ordinances. Bilingual skills and CPR/First Aid card highly desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. The position requires mobility. Employee must be able to walk for up to eight hours per day, work alone or with another employee, climb hills on unimproved pathways, ride a bicycle and operate a vehicle. The employee must be able to lift and place traffic barricades used to close the streets for special events. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis such as bicycles, first aid kit, traffic barricades, etc., and may weigh up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required less than 50% of the work period. A uniform and radio equipment pack are to be worn at all times.
May be exposed to all types of weather conditions and may include contact with individuals who may be violent, combative, under the influence of drugs/alcohol or who have communicable diseases. Employees must be willing to work varying shifts and hours, including weekends and holidays, with varying days off.
